The last few days of quality spouse time in NY.

On Thursday, Shane and I went to see The Lion King on broadway.
Before taking our seats, I grabbed a "Mufasa's Revenge" cocktail (basically apple schnapps, vodka and sprite) in a cool Lion King cup - which is probably too bulky to bring home with either of us.
Our spots were on the left mezzanine. Shane did SO great with picking our seats!! Such a great view and so close to the stage.
Ok enough about the seats. The show was INCREDIBLE!!! The first 5 mins had me sobbing because the experience was just SO cool!!! The dancers were totally interactive with the audience and we had one right in front of us and one right behind as well! The music was amazing.

Highlights were:

* The intro- "NAAAAR ZIP- ENYAAAAAA" The whole first 10 mins was the BEST!

* The giraffes! You just have to see it!!

* The song "He Lives in You" intertwined through the whole thing..

* Mufasa. He was so impressive and had the best costume.

* The 5 year old kid behind me who kept telling everyone off for clapping between scenes. "It's not over, you know! You don't have to clap yet!" This was also the worst part. It was cute at the start, but when she started kicking and screaming about it, I was losing my patience a little.

I strongly recommend going to see it at some stage in your life. Aussies, you won't have to wait too long, as it is coming to Sydney later on in 2013.

After the show, we did the Empire State Building thing and spent $84 to get to the top. Turns out, you don't really need to go to the 102nd floor for the whole experience. You could just spend the standard price and go to the Observatory level (the one in Sleepless in Seattle). It's practically the same thing, but on the Observatory level, you can go outside, use a telescope (for a small price) or stay inside and experience practically the same view 16 floors lower than "the top". In saying that, the whole experience was really quite beautiful. We missed the sunset (about an hours worth of waiting in about 8 different queues). And we were too early to catch the live jazz bands. There is only so much you can do on the 86th floor with a bazillion people squishing and pushing you in every direction (Sleepless in Seattle was so misleading!!), so we left to grab some dinner.

I don't know if I have ever had a more amazing burger. Shake Shack is the place to go. Not only did we have Shake Shack for lunch, we also had it for dinner the same day. Shane rated the shake as the best he has ever had (another impressive expression of interest from this guy)!

From start to finish, it was just one of those jam-packed days that I won't forget in a hurry.

Yesterday was a little more tame. We walked the few blocks uptown to the Seinfeld restaurant (the outside one, not the one inside). Expecting to have breakfast or something light, we were let down with the menu, advertising brisket and other heavy meals. So we headed downtown and tried to score a ferry to Liberty Island.

Unfortunately, because of Hurricane Sandy, boats are currently not travelling to Liberty or Ellis Island.. So we found a tour boat that would go around them. It was a 60 min cruise and she is as beautiful as ever. I didn't see any visual damage to the island or anything on the island. The main problem was that the wharf attached to the island was completely mangled and missing huge chunks. We were lucky enough to get up real close to her for a few happy snaps and head back again.

Once back at pier 5, we walked to pier 17- the one we were at last time, Nath and Kel! Found the Victoria's Secret shop and had to buy some PJs for the next leg of my trip. (I'd hate to share a dorm and not have any PJs... )
We had a stodgy food court lunch and bumped into the Donnelly Family from church! Crazy!

As it was our last night together, Shane and I didn't plan much. We caught a cab (woo!) to union square to see if we could catch Django at the cinema, but couldn't be bothered waiting 2 hours. So we went home via dinner at a "healthy pizza" store and just remembered the many highs of our journey together.

See you in a month and a half babe.
