I knew it was going to be a good day...

Sundays are good days. I never have to work on a Sunday. I have Church with the people and God I love. But the last Sunday of every month is dedicated to a significant part of my life- The Caringbah Rotatry Markets. Today was ultra special because I took the first photographs on my new polaroid camera.

Thank you E-bay, Shane, Sham WOW, Diet Coke and of course, the coolest stall on the block (Cait, George & Carol).

The El Paso

You know that "Expo" channel on Free to Air digital television? It's hypnotising. I'm a huge sucker. I do exactly what people tell me to do. (Tonight, I wanted to buy this amazing pasta maker. You could make fresh pasta in just 4 mins. And add flavour to it too! Wow-wee!) Billboards are the same... I see a giant billboard of Cadbury, and for some reason, I just feel like chocolate.
We were driving south from Byron Bay, wondering where to stay that night. Port Macquarie was coming up closer and there were billboards along the way. (I came prepared with snacks already in the car.)

First there was Rydges. The picture made it look as if the bedroom was a resort of it's own! I was sold!
"Honey, let's stay there!"
"Sure Babe."

Driving along a bit further, there was the Pacific Palms. Boy, this looked ritzy. It just looked so beautiful.. And the colours they used in advertising were just so appealing. Bright blue skies, light interior, etc. I felt relaxed just looking at the billboard. We were on our honeymoon, so why not!
"BABE! LET'S STAY THERE!" (dribble)
"Sure Babe!"

Driving along a bit further, we had made our minds up. We were heading to the Pacific Palms. We see this -I wouldn't even call it a billboard- poster. Faded colours, corny font... The El Paso.

"Pfft... Like they've even got a chance with the other two we passed."
"Pssssh... Yeah, Pacific Palms wins hands down."

We get to Pacific Palms. "No Vacancy."

We drive to Rydges. "No Vacancy."

We drive to The El Paso.

AND HAD THE GREATEST TIME!

Adelaide's got balls.

While in Adelaide just after Christmas, I saw some really cool T-shirts with some "South Australian" slang on them. I felt great about being "in" on all of the jokes.. And I had a great giggle over some of them. But were not as funny when I tried to explain to Shane- The outsider.

"Adelaide's got balls" was my favourite.. I thought a picture or two would be self-explanatory.

a nice surprise...

Before we even started to think about getting married, Shane & I have had a huge thing for Kinder Surprises. They were such a treat! Chocolate, a toy (hopefully one you could assemble), and smiles all round.
So it made sense to give our wedding guests a Kinder Surprise each as a token of our thanks...
But due to the intense heat of our wedding day, most guests had left before we brought them out.
Tonight (just over 2 months later), we opened the fridge to deposit our weekly groceries.. and found a Kikki-K bag FILLED TO THE BRIM with Kinder Surprises.
Set for life.

Bring back the days of climbing trees.

When I was a kid, I spent my time rollerblading, hopscotching, skipping and spending all of my pocket money at the corner shop on lollies. But then there were the countless hours I spent in trees... Climbing, swinging, pretending I was in a really cool TV show (I was my own narrator), counting as high as I could (and as loud as I could) and of course, singing to the birds (wishing I was something out of a Disney movie). Man, I'd love to be that kid again.
(I still pretend I'm in a really cool TV show.)

husband.

Oh I really don't like that you're a sensitive sleeper.
And I don't appreciate that you give better hugs than I do.
It's unfair that you never complain when I ask/tell you to wash up.
I can't believe how quick your showers are..
Or that you have breakfast every morning without fail.
Why do our neices rush to you to read them a story?
It's downright mad that you're getting rid of the spiders while I whimper in the corner.
And the fact that you tuck me in and kiss me goodnight..
and kiss me good morning...
And how come you're just the best thing that's ever happened to me, huh?
....But I really don't like that you're a sensitive sleeper.

New Year.. New Things

I'm no stranger to change..

In the last couple of months,

I have moved all the furniture I've collected since I was twelve years old into a 2-bedroom unit,

I married the most wonderful man I've ever known

and I am about to embark on a new adventure at work.

This blog, entitled "Strawberries&Suncream" is a tribute to the things I react to. Both items being a part of any other normal person's summer.. And although I know most strawberry flavoured things don't have real strawberries in them, that artificial smell of the dang fruit drives me away.

Even while I crave a kiss from my hubby after he's had a strawberry thickshake.. And even when I've rubbed a litre of "after sun lotion" on my shoulders after a day at the beach.. I don't hope to change these quirks about me any time soon.

I'm taking the time to enjoy the quirks.. and discover new ones. Let's find out what's in 2010.
