The Wild Girl

The magnificent RUTH&ROSE took me out for a day of sand-castles, adventure, sandy-pants and a whole lot of sweaty fun on the dunes.
Here is that day. Thanks, Peachjam, for making me feel like a total babe!

If at first you don't succeed, stuff it! Pretend you succeeded!

I made a bunch of cupcakes from scratch, colour coordinated the patty pans, popped them in the oven, set the timer and went to get ready for a day out in the sunshine.

Quite some time had passed... I went to check on them. I had not heard the buzzer go off. The timer was on zero. Batch number one was burnt.

I tried again, made bigger cupcakes in bigger patty pans, popped them in the oven and stayed in the loungeroom so I could hear the buzzer go off this time.

Quite some time had passed and I could start to smell cupcake, but I heard no buzzer. I went to check on my bigger cupcakes. The timer was once again on zero, but it had not gone off. Batch number two was burnt.

I was frustrated. I pouted. I may have stomped my feet. I WANTED CUPCAKES!
Shane held open a plastic bag for me to bin them. I grabbed one cupcake and threw it as hard as I could into the plastic bag. I grabbed another and did the same thing. And it felt good. Slamming these crappy cupcakes into the rubbish bag made me giggle after a while. And I felt I got my revenge with them. Satisfied with blowing off my steam, I was still a bit bummed that I did not have cupcakes.

A bit later in the day, we went out and bought a timer. And prettier cupcake holders to make me feel a bit excited about trying again.

I'm glad we tried the timer as soon as we got home, not waiting to test it out on another bunch of cupcakes.
When the dial gets to zero, it does not buzz and ring or do any magic tricks. It simply stops ticking.
Dud buzzer.

I ended up sitting on the kitchen floor, watching the cupcakes rise.

It was about 11:30pm by the time they came out so I was pretty exhausted. I left them to cool overnight and went to bed.

I woke up the next day and ran to the kitchen to check on how fluffy and perfect they might be. But they were stale because I'd left them out all night. Idiot.

A little impatient at this stage, I just iced and decorated them anyway.

Hoon?

My husband is a car enthusiast.
This is him in the local newspaper, standing up for motorsports and other car enthusiasts out there, who need somewhere to do their thing.
That's him in the Nissan Silvia S13 having the time of his life drifting.

That car is his pride and joy! And while I don't share his passion of cars or the drift culture, I admire his dedication. He has made two appearances in the leader in the last month, has featured on Triple J's "Hack" program and is still working on it.

The least I could do for his birthday (all I could afford) was to attempt a sketch of an S13.
This is it.

(Underneath, was a caption saying "I tried".)
I didn't think much of it  (and was a little embarrassed to give it to him), but Shane was impressed with my attempt and said it was "actually pretty good, Babe!"

If you go down to the woods today...

HUNTINGS.
A positively splendid evening at the Brass Monkey.
Wonderful, talented friends.
They have promised to play at my half-birthday party for payment of cake.
What lovely friends.

Blackpool

I bought these prints for 50c each at last month's Caringbah Markets.
While we're on the topic of memories, I wonder whos these belonged to.
The writing on the back of the images state that here lies Blackpool.
(After googling, I have found out that Blackpool is in the UK. And that tower in the middle of the first picture is quite a landmark! Now with ritzy lights and now situated near a theme park!)
Why did I purchase these images (which are in fact, no bigger than a post-it note)?
I don't really know why. The people in the first picture appeal to me. Waistcoat and top hatted men... I wonder where they are going?

I couldn't very well just buy the one picture and leave the other three. They were only 50c each after all. Why not have a wonderful collection of Blackpool images?

flawed memories

I always think I have certain memories of a place or an event... But then maybe the memories are just of a photo that I have seen. I create stories around the memories I think that I have.. and consequently, I can't remember which memories are real and which ones are not..

I've been going through a lot of my childhood photos lately (...Not sure if you've noticed-hah!) and I found a few old photographs that were at the bottom of the shoe box. The "dud" ones. You know what I mean.

So... Without much more of an introduction, here are a few of my favourite photos (memories) at the moment...

i was a little more prepared this time.

facepainting through the ages.

I've been getting my face painted at every opportune moment since before I can remember. My sister has usually had something to with it, constantly practicing her techniques on me. I don't mind in the slightest. She's one of the cleverest people I know. For the last couple of years, Lollie has been face painting at Sydney's Royal Easter Show. Naturally, since I turned 18, I have been to the Easter Show about ten times. Face painting is my favourite part.

She's a proffesional

More Mrs B's...

He filmed our wedding.
She changed his world.
I met Hannah for the first time today. She hugged me before even getting my name. Just delightful.
